DRUG SCREEN CARD INSTRUCTIONS IN USE

THESE INSTRUCTIONS ASSUME THE COLLECTION IS COMPLETE AND THE URINE SAMPLE IS AT OR ABOVE ROOM TEMPERATURE (NOTE: IF THE SPECIMEN HAS BEEN REFRIGERATED, IT SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO ROOM TEMPERATURE PRIOR TO TESTING.)

PERFORMING THE TEST

  1. Collect urine from donor in Sterile Specimen cup with temperature strip.
  2. Check temperature to verify collection from donor.
  3. Open the foil pouch and remove the Multi-Drug Screen Card.
  4. Dip Drug Screen Card in Specimen cup observing the dip to line.
  5. Place Card on Absorbent towel on a well-lighted surface.

VALIDATING THE CONTROL

Once the sample/reagents have moved across the test strip, you are ready to validate the test's "CONTROL" (Average test time is 3-5 minutes.)

Observing the test strip next to the "C", you should see a fine line. The presence of this line indicates that the test has functioned properly and that the test results can be read. If no line has formed next to the "C", the test has not functioned properly. If this should happen, disregard the entire test, dispose of the test cassette and perform another test with a new cassette. Should the second test fail, this may indicate that the sample has been adulterated. In this case, the sample should then be packaged for transport and sent to a laboratory for analysis.

INTERPRETING RESULTS

  1. After you have validated that the test has functioned properly, you can "READ" the test results. A line on the test strip next to a particular drug indicates a "NEGATIVE" test result. (Note: The presence of any line must be interpreted as a negative result. While the intensity of a line may relate to the level of drug present, other factors may contribute to a light line. Should these samples be forwarded to a laboratory for confirmation, they may not confirm the presence of a drug at "normal" confirmation levels.)
  2. The absence of a line on the test strip next to a particular drug indicates a "POSITIVE" test result. PREMIER CHEK™ like all immunoassay tests, provides only a preliminary result. All samples interpreted as positive should be forwarded to a laboratory for confirmation. Confirmation tests should always be performed using a more specific method than that of the initial immunoassay. (The recommended method of confirmation is GC/MS.)
  3. Do not read the result after 8 minutes. (Test could become a false negative if read after 8 minutes.)

SAVING THE RESULT

Premier Laboratory Systems, Inc. recommends that the Multi-Drug Screen test Cards not be saved for reference since the test was conducted using a urine sample. We suggest that a photocopy of the test card be made if the user wishes to retain the test results for future reference.
